The Yard at Mission Rock – Project in conjunction with Gehl Studio, San Francisco.

The site between the SOMA and Mission Bay neighborhoods boasts spectacular views of the Ballpark, San Francisco Bay, and the Bay Bridge, and is the home Mission Rock – a 3.6 million square foot mixed-use development. Gehl Studio developed the initial concept for the San Francisco Giants and brought OpenScope’s Mark Hogan in as Project Manager in early 2014 to help bring the vision to reality. OpenScope provided construction administration services for the Giants, opening the project on schedule in March of 2015.

Featured in the San Francisco Chronicle, this temporary project was housed in up-cycled shipping containers. These harbored a variety of local businesses (including a beer garden by OpenScope’s Potrero Hill neighbor Anchor Brewing) serving food and drink, and selling merchandise out of temporary storefronts. The west end of the site hosted food trucks from Off The Grid. On game days and during special events, the street in front of The Yard was closed to automobile traffic to create a pedestrian plaza with movable street furniture.

The 18,000-square-foot project replaced a few rows of parking spaces with a year-round space that provided a gathering place for San Francisco’s newest neighborhood. This project is currently being replaced with a public park and mixed-use development.
